Litmus tests - we often hear those who feel strongly about a certain issue have their views dismissively spoken of as litmus tests. The term "litmus test" in this context is used as a pejorative.
Is it right to apply litmus tests to our leaders and political candidates? If so what are your litmus tests?
I do believe litmus tests are appropriate. Perhaps we should use the term "standard" which has less baggage. Or as Dr. James Dobson has said, some positions on the issues are simply disqualifying factors - for instance a candidate who advocated for racial segregation. Such a candidate would be dismissed outright.
I have over the years had two such disqualifying factors I have used when evaluating candidates: their positions on abortion and gun rights.

In keeping with the Blog's title, here is my eclectic (partial) list of favorite songwriter/composers:
ReplyDeleteJ.S. Bach
Johnny Cash
John Rutter
Alan Jackson
Charles Wesley
Taylor Swift (that one took courage)
Taylor Swift is banished from my list as of Fall, 2018. ...that took no courage whatsoever.
